About Us

SAF is governed by a Board of Directors that works closely with SAF’s 11 National Committees, 30 State Societies, and 18 active Working Groups. Each component of SAF has its own unique roles and responsibilities that contribute to the Society’s success.

SAF’s 10,000 members believe in the adage:

“For the greatest good. For the greatest number. Over the long run.”

We challenge landowners, decision makers, and society at large to make choices about our forests based on professional knowledge, leading-edge thinking, and a century of practical experience. Learn more about SAF’s mission, vision, and history.

We seek viable pathways forward, balancing diverse demands on our natural resources. Learn more about SAF’s advocacy and outreach priorities.

We set the standard in forest management, bringing science, best practices, and trained professionals together to positively shape the future of the forest sector. Learn more about SAF’s credentialing programs.

Together, we are advancing the sustainable management of forest resources through science, education, technology, and sustained professional excellence.

Together, we will ensure the continued health, integrity, and productivity of forests for the benefit of all, in perpetuity.

Our Membership

Working Groups

SAF Working Groups are communities of interest for natural resources professionals across the nation to connect, learn, share, and collaborate. WGs ensure by hosting timely workshops, webinars, and trainings that the latest science, research, and technology available on a given topic can be fully utilized by SAF members.

10,000 Members

SAF members are practitioners, teachers, researchers, advisers, and administrators in public service and in private enterprise. They work in offices and in the field, in cities and in rural communities. Learn more about membership eligibility, benefits, and value.

All SAF members share something in common, though. Upon joining SAF, our members assume a special responsibility to the profession and to society by promising to uphold and abide by The Forester’s Code.
